Rotorua Day 2

Saturday we started off the day with a hike up Rainbow Mountain. The mountain has several geothermal features in the side of it, making the soil a rainbow of colors. Sam was wearing a plastic bag because he forgot his raincoat haha.

All the steam in the photos was coming from the rocks.

The view from the top of the mountain!

Next we went to Wai-o-tapu, one of the many geothermal parks near Rotorua. It was a like a smaller version of Yellowstone.

This orange stuff was all over the plants, making the forests look very strange.

The geothermal features were super cool but also really stinky haha

One of the waterfalls along the stream created by the geothermal springs.

Caroline really wanted to touch the water haha

Next up was Kerosene Creek. A hot spring flows into this creek making the water as warm as a bath tub!

We ended the night at Tamaki Maori village where we took part in a welcoming ceremony, watched several performances including the haka, and stuffed ourselves at a delicious buffet dinner. My favorite part of the evening was actually the bus ride home because our driver led us in a singalong. I don't have any pictures from the night yet, but we had a great time! Before going to bed, we watched the beginning of the New Zealand vs. Australia rugby match.
