If you ever go to the south part of New Zealand, beware of Te Namu Namu. In Maori legend, it is said the goddess of death, Te-Hine-nui-to-po, worried that Milford Sound was so wonderful that people might want to live there forever, so she created the sandfly to remind visitors of their mortality. The first time I felt a bite from these little flies, Caroline and Karel didn't believe me, but these little guys are just like mosquitoes. Thankfully, only the females bite and they don't come out at night, but they will burrow into your clothes and car if you let them. If you want to avoid these little guys, remember to bring bug spray if you go anywhere near a beach or riverbed!

Anyway, back to our roadtrip. Te Anau! We sat by the lakeside for a while then walked a bit of the Kepler Track called Rainbow Reach, where we discovered that Canadian Geese live in New Zealand too, ugh.
We got back on the road and headed towards Queenstown again because Caroline needed to get to the airport and fly to Rarotonga! We stopped halfway in a town called Lumsden which is known for being a welcoming stop for freedom campers.
